These three have other equally strong team comps, but Yun Jin is still a really nice teammate. She isn’t a must-build, but she’ll perform great if you do build her. And this is especially true for teams that greatly benefit from her niche buffing ability. But if you use characters that don’t benefit from her – aka characters that don’t rely on their normal attacks –, then she’s irrelevant to your account. There’s no reason to build her. Note: This is about meta only. If you like Yun Jin regardless of her power level, don’t let this stop you from playing her.
Pros & Cons
Yun Jin Strengths
Yun Jin’s normal attack buffing abilities can be competitive with other more versatile and stronger buffers. This is thanks to the additional flat damage she adds to a character’s normal attack – aka how her buffing ability works. This additional damage includes multiple aspects of Yun Jin’s kit like her DEF, burst talent level, and ascension passive. Then it’s multiplied with the buffed character’s CRIT stats and damage bonus. Basically, it’s a notable damage gain. Yun Jin is an uncontested unit because she buffs a niche ability that only a few characters can use. So she’s essentially more accessible than other highly contested buffers like Bennett. You can easily draft her into a new team without sacrificing any of your existing team comps.
Yun Jin Weaknesses
Yun Jin’s main and only role is to buff normal attack damage. This is the core of both her kit and constellations, and she doesn’t offer any other utility outside of that. Because of this, other support units can outperform her in situations where other utilities are more valuable – even at the cost of less damage. For instance, Diona can situationally be more favorable thanks to her healing and shielding. After all, you can’t really deal damage when your characters are dead. Similarly, units like Bennett, Kazuha, and Sucrose are often better buffers – but they’re highly contested. So Yun Jin is simply a strong alternative if you don’t have those other stronger supports available. Otherwise, you’re often better off with supports that provide more utility outside of buffing.
Are Yun Jin’s Constellations Good?
Yun Jin is already a completely functional unit at C0 – but her constellations are nice to have. Each one provides a good damage gain to Yun Jin and her teams. And if you’re already planning to pull for cons, C3 is a highly recommended place to stop. C2-C3 are her most notable constellations. C2 directly buffs Yun Jin’s teammates, while C3 improves her buffing abilities. Constellations past C4 are also decent, but they’re generally not worth pulling. Instead, you’ll get them naturally while pulling in any gacha banner. It’s not worth actively spending your Primogems for them.
C1: Thespian Gallop
Her skill cooldown is decreased by 18%. This effectively reduces her cooldown to 7.38s. It’s a good quality-of-life upgrade that lets Yun Jin cast more skills per rotation – which also reduces her energy requirements. However, this only works for flexible teams where you can insert a skill cast in the middle of the rotation. But if you can’t, then C1 is insignificant.
C2: Myriad Mise-En-Scene
After casting her burst, all nearby teammates’ normal attack damage is increased by 15% for 12s. This is completely unaffected by Yun Jin’s flag count. So even if you run out of flags within 12s, C2’s damage increase will remain. Its effect also works in co-op – thus making Yun Jin an even better buffer in multiplayer.
C3: Seafaring General
Increases her elemental burst talent level by 3. This directly boosts the additional flat damage of Yun Jin’s burst – aka her main buffing ability – by a significant amount. It’s an unconditional damage gain.
C4: Flower and a Fighter
When Yun Jin triggers a crystallize reaction, her DEF increases by 20% for 12s. Like her C3, this increases Yun Jin’s additional flat damage. It’s a relatively small but good damage gain.
C5: Famed Throughout the Land
Increases her elemental skill talent level by 3. This buffs her skill damage multipliers – which is irrelevant since Yun Jin isn’t the main damage-dealer.
C6: Decorous Harmony
Characters under the effects of Yun Jin’s burst have their normal attack speed increased by 12%. This is a good but situational constellation – although it’s generally a sizable damage gain. However, this effect is connected to Yun Jin’s flag count. So if you consume all 30 stacks before her burst ends, C6’s effects will also disappear.
